Options and Accessories
Adding recommended options and accessories to your Duke Flexible Batch Broiler today will help increase your return on investment by reducing costs associated with broiler cleaning, maintenance and code compliance.
Gas Hose - $325

Duke offers a gas hose kit that's sized specifically for the Flexible Batch Broiler. The new Duke gas hose is safer because it has two swivel joints, which allow the hose to flex when the broiler is moved for cleaning. Older, rigged connector gas hoses lead to cracking of the hose when it is repeatedly flexed and stressed. The new gas hose also has shut-off valves built in to the quick connectors for extra safety.
All Burger King corporate stores are upgrading to the new gas hose. You are strongly encouraged to replace the gas hose when installing a new broiler.
Catalyst - $1,425

A catalyst can pay for itself in as little as 12 months
Duke has developed and tested a catalyst that fits on top of the Flexible Batch Broiler. The main job of the catalyst is to eliminate smoke and grease left over from the cooking process. It accomplishes this much like the catalyst in your car; it utilizes heat generated from the platinum coated fins to disintegrate the grease and smoke.
Enough with the techie stuff, you want to know if the catalyst is going to save you money and deliver an ROI. The answer simply stated is yes.
Recent studies by Fisher Nickel (Independent Test Laboratory) show that a Duke Flexible Batch Broiler operating with a catalyst will save an additional 12% in energy versus a Duke Flexible Batch Broiler operating without a catalyst. Additional studies by Duke show that a catalyst can reduce ventilation hood cleanings by 1-2 per year depending on the volume of your restaurant. With each vent hood cleaning estimated at $400, the savings can add up fast. In some cases, the payback can be as quick as 12 months.
| Restaurant Volume | Less than $1.5M | $1.5 M to $2.0M |
|---|---|---|
| Price of Catalyst | $1,425.00 | $1,425.00 |
| Cost Savings | ||
|---|---|---|
| Additional 12% Energy Savings | $615.48 | $615.48 |
| Annual Vent Hood Cleanings Reductions | 1 | 2 |
| Total Savings @ $400 / Cleaning | $400.00 | $800.00 |
| Total Cost Savings | $1,015.48 | $1,415.48 |
| Payback in Months | 17 | 12 |
* Calculated using ROI Calculator on this site assuming a gas rate of $11.25 per 1000 CuFT and 18 Hours of Operation per day. The Duke Flexible Batch Broiler gas energy cost is then multiplied by 12%
What’s more, if your restaurant is located in an area where the local utility is offering energy rebates or incentives on the Flexible Batch Broiler, buying a catalyst may further enhance your potential rebate and ROI. For example, in California a Duke Flexible Batch Broiler purchase with a catalyst qualifies for an additional rebate of $221 versus a broiler purchase without a catalyst. By the way, the Duke Flexible Batch Broiler is the only approved broiler in the BKC system that qualifies for this rebate.
Beyond the savings opportunity that a catalyst offers, there are several other reasons you may want to purchase a catalyst from Duke now:
- It’s good for the environment and will help reduce smoke and odor complaints from adjacent homes or businesses. It pays to be a good neighbor;
- Local codes require a catalyst for broiler operations; California started this mandate, and other states and municipalities across the US are adapting variations of the law. New York, Minnesota and North Carolina also now have catalysts requirements;
- The Duke catalyst is an approved solution in Southern California. Buying a new broiler with a catalyst now will insure you against possible future compliance retrofits;
- The catalyst will reduce the risk of vent hood fires;
- It can help improve the effectiveness of the ventilation hood because of the grease and smoke reduction that the catalyst provides;
- Helps facilitate being able to operate the broiler in the low stand position, which makes the broiler easier for your crew to operate.
By purchasing the catalyst now, you’ll reap the benefits of the additional energy and cleaning savings not just the first year but year after year. You’ll also be ready for any future changes in local codes and become a certified catalyst techie.
High Pressure Regulator - $65

Duke offers a gas regulator kit for stores that have high inlet gas pressure. This kit is required if the inlet gas pressure of your store is above 12 inches water column.
Parts Kit A - $1,457

The full parts kit, Parts Kit A, has all of the parts that are needed to repair the broiler. You may want to buy a kit with the new broiler to have the parts on hand and get a discount over what you would pay later through a service company. Duke recommends a full parts kit for every four stores.
